Having a pool on your property is great. Not only is it a lot of fun for you, your family, and friends, but it also increases the resale value of your home. However, pools can also create a safety concern and insurance liability if the owner doesn’t properly fence the area.
This is especially true when small children are present and why fences around pools is required by law. At Jim’s Fencing, we take safety very seriously and can help you create an effective safety barrier that also looks great.
Our professional staff are aware of all of the regulations and standards that relate to fencing. We ensure that your fence is completely compliant with Australian Standards and regulations. Additionally, we will also make sure that the fence looks great, and complements your home.
All of our pool fences are completely customised to fit your unique needs and the layout of your yard. We never buy stock standard panels from Bunnings and just make them fit. We put craftsmanship and customer service first to ensure that our clients are completely satisfied with the end product from an aesthetic and functionality perspective.
We offer a wide range of styles and colours to suit your unique tastes. No matter what the design of your home, landscape and pool are, we have a fence for you. We can use powder coated steel, aluminium, glass or PVC to completely personalise your fence.
What Do You Need in a Pool Fence?
If you have never had a pool fence, you might not know exactly what you need. Here are some tips to keep in mind when picking out the right fence for you and your family:
The fence should be at least 1200 mm, high enough that it is not easy for young children to climb. This keeps everyone safe and makes sure that an adult can always fully supervise any child using the pool. Hinges should be placed at least 900 mm apart to prevent climbing. Glass fences are also a great solution because they are not easy to climb.
You need a reliable latching system that keeps the gate shut. Otherwise, children might get into the pool when no one is paying attention. Along similar lines, the latch needs to be high enough that young children can’t reach it. The latch should be at least 1500 mm from the ground for maximum protection.
The gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground should be no more than 100mmhis prevents children crawling under the fence. It also keeps out dogs, cats and other animals that could hurt themselves or damage your pool.
Even if your fence meets all of the other criteria, if there’s a barbeque, tree or chairs nearby, then children can use these to hop over the fence. If trees are near the fence, make sure that they are trimmed regularly so that the branches can’t be used for climbing into the pool.
The pool’s gate must open outwardly, away from the water and be self closing from all open positions. The gap between the gate and the surrounding fence needs to be less than 10 mm wide. All of these details provide additional protection and make sure that your pool is not a hazard.
Fences are not simply something you leave and forget about as they must be properly maintained.
